Sim Workspace Events starts a workflow when another workflow runs, changes deployment, or meets an alert condition. Use it to send an alert, escalate a failure, or run follow-up logic.
Configure the trigger
- Add Sim Workspace Events and choose Event. The default is Run Error.
- Optionally select Workflows to watch.
- For an alert condition, set its threshold and any time window.
- Connect the follow-up blocks and deploy the workflow.
- Produce the watched event and confirm the follow-up run in Logs.
Events
Plain events fire for each matching occurrence:
Run-backed alert conditions are evaluated when runs complete. Failure-based conditions evaluate on failed runs:
| Condition | Rule | Default configuration |
|---|---|---|
| Consecutive Failures | Last N runs failed | 3 failures |
| Failure Rate | Failure percentage meets or exceeds the threshold; at least 5 runs required | 50% over 24 hours |
| Latency Threshold | A run exceeds a duration | 30,000 ms |
| Latency Spike | A run exceeds the recent average by a percentage; at least 5 runs required | 100% above average over 24 hours |
| Cost Threshold | A run exceeds a credit amount | 200 credits |
| Error Count | At least N errors occur in the window | 10 errors over 24 hours |
No Activity is checked by a separate poller, not by completed runs. It watches deployed workflows for an absence of recorded non-Sim-trigger runs in the configured Inactivity Window (hours), default 24 hours. A watched workflow with no runs can fire on the first eligible poll.
For self-hosted deployments, configure the workspace-events polling job; see background jobs.
Workflow scope
Leave Workflows empty to watch the workspace, or select workflows to narrow it. The workflow containing this trigger is always excluded. No Activity watches only deployed, unarchived workflows.
Outputs
All payloads identify the source workflow with event, timestamp, workflowId, and workflowName. The event is a wire value such as execution_error, rather than the display label Run Error.
Fields that do not apply are present as null. Large finalOutput values are truncated; the event payload is not a replacement for the full run log.
For a trigger named Sim Events, read <simevents.event> or <simevents.triggeringRun.runId>. A run-backed alert payload has this shape:
{
"event": "latency_threshold",
"timestamp": "2026-10-13T12:00:05.000Z",
"workflowId": "source-workflow-id",
"workflowName": "Customer support",
"runId": null,
"durationMs": null,
"cost": null,
"finalOutput": null,
"triggeringRun": {
"runId": "c7a92e15-3f4b-4d8c-a1e6-9b0d5f2c8e74",
"durationMs": 35000,
"cost": 4,
"finalOutput": { "answer": "..." }
},
"version": null
}For plain run events, those summary values are top-level and triggeringRun is null. Workflow Undeployed and No Activity leave all run/version fields null.
Behavior
- Trigger configuration is captured at deployment. Deploy an update after changing the event, watched workflows, or thresholds.
- Run-backed alerts fire at most once per hour for a trigger subscription. No Activity has a per-watched-workflow cooldown of at least one hour or the inactivity window, whichever is longer.
- Delivery is fire-and-forget. Follow-up runs are billed like other runs and remain subject to workspace rate limits; a dispatch failure does not fail the source run.
Runs started by Sim Workspace Events do not emit workspace events and are excluded from alert statistics. Follow-up workflows cannot chain workspace-event triggers into a recursive loop.
