The production user-mention trigger uses

This test covers onlykeydown, so it does not detect a regression in the subsequentclickbehavior. Interaction across every user reference (message author name and avatar, system messages, user mentions): hovering opens the user card, clicking or pressing Enter/Space opens the user info. - UserCardProvider opens on hover after an intent delay and closes when the pointer leaves the card, its trigger or a menu spawned from it (tracked geometrically, since the popover is portaled). Moving from one author to another hands the card off, showing a skeleton instead of the previous user's data. - The card is a non-modal popover and never takes focus; Escape is handled at the document level and consumed, so it doesn't also close an underlying contextual bar, unless a menu from the card is open. - The document listeners are bound through the card's ref callback while the card is mounted. - Lists inside the contextual bar (threads, search, message lists) don't open the card on hover, since it would cover the rows; clicking still opens the user info. While messages are being selected, the author is not a trigger. - Mentions gain an onUserMentionHover handler in gazzodown. - The video call action creates the direct message on demand instead of requiring one, and skips federated users. the author's message keyboard trigger should have the same action as the click trigger, currently keyboard action opens the user card, it should open the user info tab
… a hover preview Enter/Space on an author, system message user or mention now does what a click does and opens the user info. The card is only shown on hover (or on click where no user info exists, such as call and contact history), so the keyboard mode that moved focus into a modal card is gone, and message and mention triggers no longer claim to open a popup.

@dougfabris done in 109883d: Enter/Space on the message author, system message user and mentions now opens the user info, same as a click. The card is hover-only, so its keyboard mode is gone. |

Fair. Reworked it:
- f127d9f: the open/close timers, pending-open bookkeeping and the hand-off between authors are gone;
useTooltipTriggerStatefrom@react-stately/tooltipprovides the open delay, the linger on leave, cancelling a pending open, and opening the next card right away once one has been shown. - 02b57e4: no more pointer geometry (no
getBoundingClientRectof the card, trigger and every menu on each mousemove). The DOM side moved touseHoverCardDismissal, a callback-ref hook: enter/leave on the card, Escape, and keeping the card open while its own (portaled) menu is open. The click-onlyaria-expandedis dropped too. - 646ddaf, 071504e, 91473f4: fixes found testing it against open (native listeners, since React's synthetic enter/leave fires a leave when the card's content swaps under the pointer; same event family as the triggers so a fast move doesn't schedule a close nothing cancels).
The provider is now the tooltip state, the hook and the context.

Simplified in aab8bdc and 109883d. Against develop the header now only changes what the name does: click or Enter/Space opens the user info, hover opens the card, and while messages are being selected it isn't a button at all (the row toggles the selection). The per-list hover flag and its conditionals are gone, and so is the @username title that only existed where the card was disabled.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winAssert the members-list tab for keyboard activation.
The message-author trigger passes Space activation to
openUserInfo. In this normal channel, openUserInfoopens themembers-listroom tab and dismisses any user-card popup. It does not open theUser carddialog used bychannelPage.userCard.This test can therefore time out at
waitForDisplay(). Update the test to assert and close the members-list tab instead.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

A hover card stayed open while the pointer was over any menu on the page, such as the composer's suggestions. Other menus now count only while the card's own menu is open. Also pins the 500 ms hover delay in the spec and updates the changeset to the click-and-keyboard behavior.
- The video call changes (on-demand DM, federated users) move to their own PR, #42535. - The card opens on hover everywhere, including lists in the contextual bar, so the per-list hoverUserCardEnabled flag and its conditionals are gone. - The keyboard e2e now checks that Space on the author opens the user info.
…ip trigger state The open and close timers, the pending-open bookkeeping and the hand-off between authors were hand-rolled. useTooltipTriggerState already provides the open delay, the linger on leave, cancelling a pending open, and opening the next card right away once one has been shown.

…pointer geometry The card no longer measures its own rect, its trigger's and every menu on the page on each mousemove. useHover reports entering and leaving the card; leaving it for its own (portaled) menu keeps it open, and once that menu closes with the pointer elsewhere the card follows. The Escape handling moves with it into useHoverCardDismissal, a callback-ref hook. The click-only aria-expanded on the trigger is dropped: the card is never focused, so announcing it as expanded pointed at something a screen reader cannot reach. Triggers keep aria-haspopup.
React's synthetic pointer enter/leave reported a leave when the card's content was swapped under a resting pointer (the skeleton giving way to the loaded card), closing it as soon as the pointer reached it. The card is now tracked with native pointerenter/pointerleave listeners.
- The card closed 300 ms after loading when the pointer hadn't reached it yet: its kebab rendering as collapsed looked like its menu closing. Only an open-to-closed transition of the card's menu counts now. - Passing over another trigger for the user already shown (their avatar next to the name) re-anchored the card, moving it out from under the pointer. The card now stays where it is.
… trigger In a single fast move the browser fires pointerenter on the card before the trigger's mouseleave, so the close scheduled by the trigger was never cancelled. The card now listens to mouseenter/mouseleave, the same family as its triggers.

personally I don't like this, quite unnecessary change title and the aria-hidden. I'd remove from all message components, room thread and system
…t message The call action creates the missing DM on demand for both the call window and the call popup, instead of hiding the entry. It isn't offered to federated users, since calls don't work over federation, so `federated` is threaded from the card, user info and members list into the actions. Extracted from #42510. Proposed changes (including videos or screenshots)
One interaction for every user reference (message author name and avatar, system messages, @mentions): hover opens the user card, click or Enter/Space opens the user info. The card is a pointer-only preview of what the user info shows. Today clicking opens the card, and the card's "See full profile" opens the user info.
UserCardProvidermouseleave).aria-expanded. Message and mention triggers no longer carryaria-haspopup, since activating them opens the user info.UserCardDialogno longer uses react-aria'suseDialog, which focused the card on mount: a card shown on hover would otherwise take focus from what the user is doing (e.g. typing in the composer).Suspenseinside the card container, so the ref attaches before the card's code loads), instead of an effect keyed on the open state.Triggers
aria-hiddenpointer shortcuts for the name button next to them, and their native tooltip is gone (the card answers the hover).onUserMentionHoverhandler next toonUserMentionClick.Nothing visual changes in the card or the user info; that's the redesign in #41650. The video call changes that used to be here (creating a DM on demand) stay with the redesign in #41650.
Extracted from #41650 (user information redesign), where @ivans-netto built this behavior. Stacked on #42509; #41650 is stacked on top.

CORE-1962 · DSN-176
Steps to test or reproduce
5b. Tab to an author's name or a mention and press Enter/Space: the user info opens, same as a click.
5c. Type in the composer and hover an author: the card opens and the composer keeps focus.
Further comments
UserCardProvider.spec.tsxcovers the hover delay and cancel, Escape consumption, menus owning Escape, explicit dismissal cancelling a pending open, and the stable context value.userCardToolbarpage-object getter is removed.
