macOS

UnQuarantine

Adds a shortcut in the Quick Actions (or Services on older macOS versions) section of the right click menu to remove the "quarantine" attribute from downloaded programs and files.
Doing so can prevent an error, warning, or long delay when they are opened.

If you are looking for an equivalent tool to remove the "Mark of the Web" on Windows, try ZoneStripper.

How to use:
Extract the ZIP file and open the resulting file. You will be prompted to install it.
Then you can right click any file, folder, or selection of multiple files, and select Quick Actions (or Services on older macOS versions) → UnQuarantine to remove the "quarantine" attribute from it.
Supports OS X 10.7-macOS 15 on Intel and Apple Silicon CPUs.

Download
Current version: 1.2.1 (2020-08-09)

How to uninstall:

  1. In the Finder, click the Go menu, then "Go to Folder…".
  2. In the text box that appears, enter the following text:
    ~/Library/Services
  3. Press Return.
  4. A folder will open. Delete "UnQuarantine.workflow" from this folder.

macOS Patches for Unsupported Macs

I created NexPostFacto, a collection of tools to run newer OS versions (10.5/10.7/10.8/10.9) on Macs that don't officially support them. It was the first patch tool to provide graphics acceleration for unsupported GPUs on OS X 10.5 or 10.9. Its OS X 10.8 patches have many fewer issues than MLPostFactor and MacPostFactor's patches. Its OS X 10.8 and 10.9 patches have been incorporated into Julian Fairfax's macOS Patcher.

I have created numerous other patches which aid in running newer macOS versions on older Macs which do not officially support them. They have been incorporated, in whole or in part, into OpenCore Legacy Patcher, Collin Mistr (dosdude1)'s macOS Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, and Catalina patchers, Barry K. Nathan (barrykn)'s big-sur-micropatcher (including its derivative Patched Sur by Ben Sova), Julian Fairfax's macOS Patcher and OS X Patcher, and OS X Hackers' macOS Extractor.

Their source code, if available, can be downloaded here. Some of the patches do not have source code because they are simple text files or patched versions of Apple drivers.

Explanations of how they work and what modifications were made to the original Apple files are available on request.

Development of my patches for macOS Big Sur and older versions is discontinued, and no support is available for them.

ClearDownloadLog

Program that clears your Mac's hidden log of downloaded files to protect your privacy.
Run it manually, or add it to Login Items in System Preferences → Users & Groups so it will run automatically when you log in to your computer. Nothing is shown on the screen when it is run; the log is silently cleared if it exists.
Supports OS X 10.5-macOS 12 on PowerPC, Intel, and Apple Silicon CPUs (earlier, and to my knowledge later, versions do not keep a central log of downloaded files).

Download
IMPORTANT: Since ClearDownloadLog is not officially approved by Apple (which costs $99 per year), the first time you open it, you need to hold Control and click the icon, then click Open and confirm your choice.
Current version: 1.3.2 (2020-12-16)
Development of ClearDownloadLog is discontinued since it is no longer necessary on macOS 13 or later versions.

Android

NowKeyboard

Android app which provides a quick way to search Google through text, without waiting for Google Assistant to open. Replaces your shortcut to Google Assistant.
Also enables the use of the Google Go app through the search assistant shortcut on all devices.
It is called NowKeyboard because Google Assistant was previously called Google Now, and NowKeyboard opened Google Now with the keyboard visible.

How to enable after installing:

Android 4.1-5.1.1: Swipe up from or long press the home button, or long press the menu button if your device has one. Tap NowKeyboard, then Always.
Android 6.0-7.1.2: Select NowKeyboard as the default assist app in Settings → Apps → Gear icon → Default apps.
Android 8.0-16: Select NowKeyboard as the default assistant app in Settings → Apps → Default apps.
The exact names of these options may differ depending on the device and Android version.

ParrotMod for the 2013 Nexus 7

Improves touchscreen responsiveness and fixes rotation issues on the 2013 Nexus 7 tablet.

More Info

ParrotMod for the 2012 Nexus 7

Optimizes the flash storage driver and RAM usage of the 2012 Nexus 7 tablet to fix its extreme slowness.

More Info

ParrotMod is no longer supported and will receive no further updates. The tablets it runs on lack the processing power and RAM to run modern apps acceptably well.

iOS Jailbreak

My jailbreak-related projects are no longer supported and will receive no further updates. I no longer jailbreak iOS and therefore have no interest in updating them.

  • I have made several jailbreak tweaks, which are available on my Cydia repository, https://parrotgeek.com/repo. Click here to add it to Cydia automatically. Their source code is available on my GitHub repository.
    • I released one of the tweaks, BetterRotate for iPad, on ModMyi, a default Cydia repository. It kept the icon layout on iPads the same in both screen orientations, enabling the user to locate apps more easily. It was reviewed by ModMyi, and appeared on iDownloadBlog's July 2015 list of top iPad tweaks. Apple added this feature in iPadOS 13.
    • NoBetaAlert disables the "Please update from the iOS beta" message that appears when beta versions of iOS expire. It is included in the unc0ver jailbreak.
    • iFile Crash Fix stops the abandoned file browser iFile from crashing because its license server no longer exists.
    • Globalize disables restrictions iOS applies based on the country an iOS device was purchased in, such as the forced camera sound on Japanese iPhones. Its source code is available on GitHub. The GitHub user @gokberkince has updated Globalize for modern rootless jailbreaks. You can download it here. You must reboot the userspace after installation. Please note that the functionality to re-enable the LGBT Pride watch face does not work if the Apple Watch was purchased in Russia, because the watch also checks its own region.
    • Original Siri Voice restores the original, robotic Siri voice on iOS 7-9.
  • I created Pluvia, a tool that enables the installation of iOS 6.1.6, which was not officially released for the iPhone 4, on the GSM iPhone 4. It is based on an exploit by xerub and dora2ios. I also made a version of Pluvia which downgraded the GSM iPhone 4 to other iOS versions. It is no longer available for download, to incentivize the use of Legacy iOS Kit, which is much more complete, instead.
  • I helped fix Substrate Safe Mode on iOS 7.

Discontinued Projects

Firefox Legacy

Firefox Legacy was an unofficial modified version of Mozilla Firefox that worked on older Mac OS X versions, including 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.7 Lion, and 10.8 Mountain Lion.
It is no longer available for download, to incentivize the use of other currently supported browsers. The information and source code are still available for reference.

See the Firefox Legacy page for more information.
