Apply Java through Mini-Labs

1.1 - Working with Data

  • Adopt-a-Pet Mini-Lab - This project is aligned with AP CSA Unit 1, topics 1.1 - 1.4. You will write a program to adopt a pet and monitor it's energy level.
  • Input and Output Mini-Lab - This require you to write program code to use console input and output.
  • Create A Face Mini-Lab - Use symbols and characters to create art by formatting output with escape sequences and text blocks.
  • Space Mission - This project is aligned with AP CSA Unit 1, topics 1.5 - 1.6. Simulate a space mission and compute the average amount of fuel consumed by the space shuttle after receiving three data transmissions.
  • Music Festival Merchandise - This project is aligned with AP CSA Unit 1, topics 1.7 - 1.8. Track inventory for a music festival. Practice documenting your code by adding appropriate and helpful comments.
  • Space Shuttle Fuel Needs - This project is aligned with AP CSA Unit 1, topics 1.9 - 1.11. Compute the verical, horizonal, and straight line distances in order to estimate the fuel needed to return a space shuttle to the launch pad.
  • Smoothie Shop - This project is aligned with AP CSA Unit 1, topics 1.12 - 1.14. In this lab, you will use a provided class called SmoothieCard to create smoothie cards for customers to order smoothies. This lab includes a class of code with numerous concepts we have yet to learn in this AP CSA in 30 weeks course, so don't be alarmed if you don't understand the Java code written.
  • Escape Room Code Decoder - This project is aligned with AP CSA Unit 1, Topic 1.15. In this lab, you will use a provided class called CodeGenerator to create a random master code that can be used to help escape the escape room maze. At the end of each room, a room code will be found. This program will interpret the room code, providing clues for the next room as well as directions to the next room, or it will allow you to exit the maze and win.

Culminating Project

  • Card Games - Use what you have learned this year to create a Card game.
  • Gradebook - Use what you have learned to create a Gradebook. This series of mini-labs corresponds with the CS 1 and AP CSA Units.
