Give Codex a task in your project. Your code and tools are on the workspace.

Illustrated workflow with example sessions. Resuming can transfer control from another browser or SSH connection. Running jobs continue. Agents can finish or wait for input; stopping or restarting the server interrupts running tasks.

Your development environment, wherever you work

Keep your environment ready

Your repositories, dependencies, and tools stay on your server between sessions. Open your browser and get back to work.

Find the work you left open

See your sessions by repository and agent. Resume a conversation, start another task, or open a shell.

Use the tools you know

Work in the browser, connect over SSH, or open your workspace in VS Code, Cursor, Devin and Zed.

Your agents. Your accounts.

Bring the tools you already use. Install supported agents and sign in with your own subscriptions or API keys.

Agent subscriptions, API charges, and provider limits are separate from your workspace. Any compatible Linux CLI can run on your server.

Keep a good idea moving.

A feature idea on your way out. A test run to check while you take a break. One more instruction before you put your phone away.

Open the same session, see where your agent left off, and choose what happens next. Your workspace holds the project context.

Take your first session mobile
  1. Set up once at your computer

Choose a server, connect GitHub, and sign in to your agent accounts. Machine setup usually takes 5 to 8 minutes.

  2. Pick up on your phone

Open Your sessions and tap Resume. Add Layerbase to your home screen for quick access.

  3. Keep your project workflow

Choose accessible repos, use separate worktrees for parallel tasks, and share project instructions across supported agents.

A browser app you can add to your home screen. Internet required. A full Ubuntu 24.04 machine with Node.js, pnpm, Docker, and Git ready to go. Explore the workspace docs.

The machine is included. Agent usage is separate.
Use your own provider accounts or API keys. Agent Server billing is monthly, with no usage metering from Layerbase. Applicable tax appears at checkout.

Databases still start free.
Agent Servers are optional and billed separately. No paid database plan required. See free database plans.

Agent Servers are in beta under the early adopter terms, without an uptime SLA. Keep your own backups. Stopping a machine does not pause billing. Cancel renewal to stop future charges, and export files before paid access ends.

A few things to know before you start

Can I use my agents from my phone?

Yes. Set up GitHub and your agent accounts on a computer, then open Your sessions on your phone and tap Resume. You can add Layerbase to your home screen as a PWA. It runs in your browser and needs an internet connection. Mobile usability is continuing to improve during beta.

Are Layerbase databases still free?

Yes. Layerbase has a free managed database tier with no credit card required. Each Agent Server has its own subscription for a development machine. You do not need to buy a server to create a free database, or buy a paid database plan to use a server.

What happens when I close my browser or laptop?

Your terminal session stays on the running server when you close the browser or disconnect your laptop. Open Your sessions to resume it. The session browser warns that resuming can transfer control from another browser or SSH connection. Agents can finish, fail, or wait for input. Stopping or rebooting the server interrupts running processes.

What is a Layerbase Agent Server?

A private Linux server that belongs to you, running Ubuntu 24.04, with Node.js 24, pnpm, Docker and Git ready to go. Your coding agents run there with your repos and tools instead of on your laptop.

Which coding agents are supported?

Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Devin, Cursor, Grok Build and Gemini CLI. Account requirements vary by agent. Use a supported subscription or API key, or start with free models in OpenCode.

Do I need a separate subscription for the agents?

Your server subscription pays for the machine, not agent usage. Depending on the tool and model, you can use a supported subscription, an API key with separate usage charges, or a free option such as the free models in OpenCode. Provider account requirements and limits still apply.

How does billing work, and what happens when I cancel?

Each server is a monthly subscription that renews until you cancel. Stopping a server does not pause billing. When you cancel, the server keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. After access ends, the server and its files may be permanently deleted, so push your code and export anything you need before then.

What does beta and the early adopter program mean?

Agent Servers are a development preview. People use them every day, but you may hit occasional bugs or downtime, features may be added, changed or removed, and there is no uptime SLA during the beta. By purchasing a server you join our early adopter program, described in the Agent Servers section of our Terms of Service at layerbase.com/terms. Keep your own backups of anything important, such as by pushing your code to GitHub.

Is there a terminal in the browser?

Yes. Every server has a Terminal tab in the dashboard with a real shell, no SSH key needed. Sessions keep running when you close the tab. You can drag in or paste images, PDFs and text files, up to 20 MB each and 5 at a time, and the file path is typed for your agent.

What are the three ways to connect?

Use SSH from your terminal, open the server in your IDE, or use the web terminal in your dashboard. Add your SSH public key for terminal and IDE access; VS Code, Cursor, Devin and Zed have direct open links. The web terminal needs no SSH key. All three connect to the same machine, repositories, and tools.

How does GitHub access work?

Install the Layerbase GitHub App and choose which repositories the server may reach. They are cloned under ~/dev, and you can change the selection later.

How do I get started?

Sign in to Layerbase, open Agent Servers in the dashboard, pick a size and a location, and check out. Setup usually takes 5 to 8 minutes.
