Summer Game Jam Kigali 2026 is a 48-hour game-creation event hosted by Digital Realm Entertainment.

The event is designed for approximately 100 participants and aims to strengthen Rwanda's growing game-development ecosystem while celebrating creativity, collaboration and innovation. Developers, programmers, designers, artists, storytellers, musicians, students and gaming enthusiasts will form teams and create playable games around a shared theme.

Who Can Join?

Anyone interested in game creation may participate. You do not need to be an experienced programmer or game developer.

  • First-time game creators

Joining alone? No problem. Participants may join individually or in teams of up to five people. Solo participants will have an opportunity to form teams during the opening session.

What to Submit

Each itch.io submission should include:

  1. A playable game build or accessible web link.
  2. The final game title.
  3. The team name and names of all team members.
  4. A short game description.
  5. Instructions explaining how to play.
  6. The supported platform or operating system.
  7. At least one screenshot or cover image.
  8. Credits for external assets, music, software and tools.
  9. A brief explanation of how the game relates to the theme.
  10. A source-code repository link, where available.

Basic Rules

  • The game must be substantially developed during the jam.
  • Teams may use game engines, frameworks, libraries and properly licensed assets.
  • Previously created assets, templates or code must be declared.
  • All external assets must be properly credited.
  • Teams must disclose their use of generative AI tools.
  • Submissions must not contain stolen, illegal, hateful or discriminatory material.
  • The submitted game must be playable by the judges.
  • Teams retain ownership of the games they create.
  • Digital Realm Entertainment may use submitted screenshots, descriptions and gameplay recordings for event promotion, documentation and reporting.
