Subject: Re: [community/community] Need rendering support for mermaid syntax on ios app (Discussion #197314)
This is likely not an issue with your repository or Mermaid syntax itself, but rather a limitation of how the GitHub iOS/iPad app renders certain diagram types.
On iPad (and the mobile GitHub app in general), Mermaid diagrams are often:
* not fully rendered natively
* or rendered differently than on GitHub web
* and sometimes fall back to a non-visual placeholder depending on the rendering engine version
What’s probably happening
The diagram is rendered correctly on GitHub’s backend, but the mobile app:
* either doesn’t support full Mermaid rendering for all diagram types
* or loads a simplified/partial renderer to optimize performance and battery usage
How to verify quickly
Try opening the same repository on:
* GitHub web (Safari/Chrome on iPad in desktop mode)
* or a desktop browser
If it renders correctly there, then the issue is confirmed to be client-side (iOS app rendering limitation), not your markdown or Mermaid code.
Workarounds you can use
1. Force image rendering via Mermaid live syntax
Some users convert diagrams into static images using:
https://mermaid.live
Then embed as PNG/SVG in the repo.
2. Use GitHub-supported diagram fallback
Instead of relying purely on Mermaid in mobile, you can:
* include a rendered image version alongside the Mermaid code
* so desktop users get live rendering, mobile users see fallback image
3. Open issue / feature request
This is actually a known gap in mobile GitHub experience:
* desktop supports full Mermaid rendering
* mobile/iPad support is still inconsistent depending on diagram type and complexity
Bottom line
Your syntax is very likely fine — this is almost certainly a rendering limitation of the iOS GitHub app, not a repository problem.
If Mermaid support is critical for your workflow, I’d recommend treating GitHub web as the “source of truth renderer” for now and using static fallback images for mobile compatibility.
Out of curiosity, which type of Mermaid diagram are you using (flowchart, sequence, class diagram, etc.)? Some types are more affected than others on mobile.
