Description

Part 2 of the OPRUN-4738 review split from PR #2938. This adds a standalone object-controller manager with a scheme limited to ClusterObjectSet and the Kubernetes types it needs. The manager reads referenced Secrets directly without a cluster-wide Secret informer. It also provides metrics, TLS, health checks, leader election, and a version command.

This PR adds the command and its integration coverage. The current operator-controller registration stays active. Packaging follows in PR #2948, and deployment and controller handoff follow in PR #2949.

This PR also corrects the test import left behind when shared labels moved in PR #2946.

Subtask: OPRUN-4773.

Validation: make verify, make lint, and make test-unit passed. Focused Go tests passed for cmd/object-controller, internal/object-controller/controllers, and internal/operator-controller/controllers.

internal/object-controller/controllers/clusterobjectset_controller.go:134-147
🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Requeue while referenced Secrets remain mutable.

When a ClusterObjectSet first reaches this branch, establishWatch has not run. SetupWithManager has no direct Secret watch. The branch also returns no error and no delayed requeue. After the status update causes its immediate follow-up reconcile, changing the Secret to immutable does not enqueue the ClusterObjectSet. It can remain Blocked until another ClusterObjectSet event occurs.

Return a delayed requeue while the Secret is mutable.

I know this is pulled forward from the existing implementation, so non-blocking comment: I see no reason for the COS controller to read and react to annotations on COS objects.

Is it part of the overall plan to phase this out?

Yes, I'm working on OPRUN-4738, which is part of OCPSTRAT-3042

Add a dedicated object-controller command with a ClusterObjectSet-focused
scheme. Configure direct Secret reads, metrics, TLS, health and readiness
probes, leader election, and version output.

Cover standalone reconciliation in an envtest integration test. Update the
Boxcutter test to import the shared labels package.
