[oadp-dev] tests/e2e: retry transient QEMU 'Invalid parameter pid' in guest-exec-status poll - #2491
Conversation
…ameter pid' The QEMU guest agent occasionally returns an "Invalid parameter 'pid'" error from guest-exec-status immediately after a successful guest-exec dispatch. This is a known qemu-guest-agent race condition where the command's PID is valid but has not yet been registered internally — not an OADP product issue. Previously the poll loop treated any JSON error reply as fatal, causing the entire RunGuestExecScript call to fail. This change detects the specific "Invalid parameter"/"pid" pattern and treats it as "not done yet" (returning false, nil), letting the 2-second poll retry until the agent catches up — matching the existing polkit-warning retry pattern. Parse the status reply before retrying it.
If any raw out text contains both substrings, the poll returns (false, nil) without parsing the reply. This can divert unrelated output into retries. A persistent match can delay completion until the enclosing two-minute timeout, and the final guest-exec did not complete error does not retain the guest-agent reply.
Inspect lastNonEmptyLine(out) as structured JSON, retain the last status reply, and include it in the timeout error. The exact error.desc == "Invalid parameter 'pid'" comparison is not established by repository tests or fixtures, so do not assume that response shape without a supported guest-agent contract.
