The service moved from Micrometer to the OpenTelemetry Spring Boot starter in open-telemetry/opentelemetry-demo#3966. The page now shows the gRPC library interceptors, spans and the counter on the OpenTelemetry API, and the Logback appender the starter installs. The service also opts in to SDK self-observability, so it is listed on that dashboard's page.

Reworded the instrumentation paragraph now that the demo PR is back on the starter. It says the starter shows an alternative and the Java agent stays the default, same line as the service README. This one still follows that PR. |

I am updating the Recommendation service page because I am rewriting the service in Java on Spring Boot 4 to replace the old Python version. Instead of relying on the Java agent the other Java services use to generate telemetry, this new version produces its own traces, metrics, and logs natively using the OpenTelemetry Spring Boot starter, while the main services table changes the language row from Python to Java. The Self-Observability Dashboard page also lists recommendation among the services that opt in.
I am making this move to resolve an open issue and am tracking the code rewrite over in a pull request. Please don't merge until a demo release ships the Java service, after which we can also push through the companion update for the helm charts.
