Description

This PR adds org.mitmproxy.mitmproxy.metainfo.xml, an AppStream metainfo file that describes mitmproxy as a console application. Software catalogs and package repositories can read this file to show the name, description, links and screenshots of mitmproxy. For example, NGI Forge, which packages mitmproxy with Nix, can then get the screenshots from this file and does not need its own list of screenshot URLs.

Notes:

  • The component type is console-application. It lists the mitmproxy, mitmdump and mitmweb commands.
  • The file is in release/linux/, and MANIFEST.in adds it to the source distribution. Linux distributions can install it to share/metainfo. The wheel does not contain it, because setuptools deprecates data-files.
  • The screenshots refer to the images of the documentation in this repository.
  • The file does not contain a <releases> list, so it does not need an update for each release.
  • appstreamcli validate --pedantic passes. It only gives the releases-info-missing hint.

Checklist

  • I have updated tests where applicable. (No tests apply to this change.)
  • I have added an entry to the CHANGELOG.
