AI LLM-Based Email Routing #19

Open

Description

@m-tse

It would be interesting if we could feed incoming email subject and bodies to an LLM with a user-customizable prompt to try to decide which target emails to forward to.

    While my hot-take was, "Oh, hell no!", I think it could be powerful and convenient IF users are careful. Note: I'm part of a product team with a lot of LLM-based event routing and metrics contextualization for decision support.

    I've seen LLM automation and agentic AI <drink!> do things what would get SVP's fired. For example: confidential emails being forwarded to the wrong recipients based on a prompt lacking guardrails because the writer was inexperienced.

    That said.. I'm not exactly vibe coding my way through life just yet, but I'm finding LLM's can drive routing decisions without mountains of brittle logic in code, and handle novel and/or rare capturing rules in remarkably intuitive ways. In our case the use of small custom LLMs for tighter logic and less hallucination, in combination with SaaS models for conversational interpretation in the UI.

    Hit me up if you're looking for a beta tester.

    Thanks as always for hosting such a useful service.

    And one more thing, if you offered prebuilt, deterministic PII detection.. hot.

    "Route all emails related to product support, where the sentiment is very low or implies account cancelation to the 3rd party retention team. However, under no circumstances should emails containing PII be routed to any addresses not contained in the PII approved recipients list. For all other emails use the product support routing rule."

    For Enterprise , they'd be a huge time saver and piece of mind for Sales and Marketing:

    "Route all emails from contacts in the CRM prospect list directly to the assigned lead rep for that prospect if the sales stage is 'invoice sent' or higher"
