Implemented while preserving KEEPALIVE | AUTO_INFLATE.

  • Bounded gzip, zstd, and Snappy inflation; oversized bodies return 413.
  • OAuth authentication runs before inflation.
  • Enforced the existing proposed 8:1 ceiling, which can also reject legitimate highly compressible payloads.

Verification: 17 inflation tests, 13 authentication tests, and 3 CTest suites passed.

Focused integration commands:

& tests/integration/.venv/Scripts/python.exe -m pytest tests/integration/scenarios/in_http/tests/test_in_http_001.py -k inflation -q
& tests/integration/.venv/Scripts/python.exe -m pytest tests/integration/scenarios/in_http/tests/test_in_http_001.py tests/integration/scenarios/in_opentelemetry/tests/test_in_opentelemetry_001.py -k 'oauth2 and not http2' -q

Remaining verification limits: curl-based HTTP/2 cases lack a compatible curl; one Prometheus listener-log assertion failed. Memory checker not run: Valgrind and macOS Leaks are unavailable on Windows.

Testing
Before we can approve your change; please submit the following in a comment:

  • Example configuration file for the change
  • Debug log output from testing the change
  • Attached Valgrind output that shows no leaks or memory corruption was found

If this is a change to packaging of containers or native binaries then please confirm it works for all targets.

  • Run local packaging test showing all targets (including any new ones) build.
  • Set ok-package-test label to test for all targets (requires maintainer to do).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • HTTP and OpenTelemetry inputs now validate OAuth2 credentials before processing request bodies. Health-check requests remain accessible when health checks are enabled.
    • HTTP request bodies encoded with gzip, Zstandard, or Snappy are automatically decompressed within the configured size limit.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Requests that exceed decompression limits receive HTTP 413; other decompression failures receive HTTP 400.
    • Rejected requests do not prevent subsequent requests on the same keep-alive connection.

📝 Walkthrough

HTTP request and response decompression now accept an output budget and support gzip, Zstandard, and Snappy. The HTTP server authorizes configured requests before inflation, limits decompressed bodies, and reports decompression errors. The HTTP and OpenTelemetry inputs register OAuth2 authorization callbacks when configured.

Changes: HTTP request processing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Budgeted body decompression
include/fluent-bit/flb_http_common.h, src/flb_http_common.c, tests/internal/http_server.c
Request and response decompression accept an output budget and use a shared path for gzip, Zstandard, and Snappy. Tests check budget boundaries, malformed input, and preservation of the original body on failure.
Server authorization and bounded inflation
include/fluent-bit/http_server/flb_http_server.h, src/http_server/flb_http_server.c, tests/integration/scenarios/in_http/config/in_http_inflation.yaml, tests/integration/scenarios/in_http/tests/test_in_http_001.py
The server invokes an optional authorization callback before body inflation and request handling. It uses the configured buffer maximum as the decompression limit and commits status 413 for limit errors or 400 for other decompression errors. Integration tests cover size boundaries, connection reuse, malformed and oversized bodies, and authorization responses.
Input plugin OAuth authorization
plugins/in_http/http.c, plugins/in_http/http_prot.*, plugins/in_opentelemetry/opentelemetry.c, plugins/in_opentelemetry/opentelemetry_prot.*, tests/integration/scenarios/in_opentelemetry/tests/test_in_opentelemetry_001.py
The HTTP and OpenTelemetry inputs register authorization callbacks when OAuth2 contexts exist. The callbacks validate authorization headers and return HTTP 401 or gRPC status 16 on validation failure. An OpenTelemetry test sends invalid gzip-marked input.

The previously identified compression risks are not present at the reviewed head. The inspected authorization paths return their intended rejection responses, so no actionable merge-blocking risk remains after normal checks.

and response decompression.

Review comments at @src/http_server/flb_http_server.c:
- Around line 427-430: Remove the fixed expansion-ratio cap from the request
budget calculation so compressed bodies may expand up to the existing
buffer_max_size limit. Update the logic around
FLB_HTTP_SERVER_MAX_EXPANSION_RATIO to rely on that configured budget without
rejecting otherwise valid batches.

requiring rejection of a valid payload that fits within the 8192-byte buffer.
Use a gzip-compressed payload whose decompressed size exceeds buffer_max_size
for the ratio-specific rejection case, while preserving the OAuth case’s
expected 401 behavior.
