Added ppc64le architecture support as it wasn't provided yet and shouldn't cause any problem during build due to GO's cross compilation.

Hi, would you mind explaining your contribution, i.e. elaborating on what this is useful for? I am not familiar with ppc64le architecture. How widespread is it? Note that we don't aim to offer precompiled binaries for every possible architecture; just the handful of popular ones.

Sure thing! First let me clarify that I'm working for IBM to avoid any confusion :) ppc64le ist the architecture which is used in IBMs Power Systems, mainly found in high-end/enterprise servers (unless you have a really old Mac from let's say before 2005 or e.g. Playstation 3). In the server market ppc64le is not uncommon and especially with a strong focus on Linux & open-source it is getting more and more used besides the fact that the Power ISA was opened up around 2 years ago. I guess many people don't know about it, because most of the development is done on x86 laptops (and probably ARM is getting more focus with the new Apple silicon). Now the idea is to commit upstream as good as possible and not introducing additional confusion/overhead by parallel distributions or hosting.

It's not a problem to compile the binary manually, but I'd appreciate if this would be merged, because in the end these systems aren't that different from a user perspective and it would make work easier for power system users.

If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to ask.

MingcongBai added a commit to MingcongBai/cli that referenced this pull request Aug 3, 2026
Add Linux binary release targets for loong64, ppc64le, and riscv64, these
are architectures that are available both as desktop and server products.
It is also reasonable to assume that they are used by developers as host
machines, where this CLI tool would have been used.

This commit is made with the understanding that GitHub has no interest in
limiting usage of hardware of architectures other than x86, x86-64, Arm32,
and Arm64.

Given that GitHub CLI is largely an architecture-agnostic tool (at least
with its built-in functionalities), that adding binary releases is rather
trivial with GoReleaser, that Golang support is quite mature (and actively
maintained) for the three architectures above, and that i386 is still a
supported architecture where host machines of strictly 32-bit x86
architecture are likely even more obscure, so add them.
