Stacked on #501 (base: feat/a11y-fetch-build-and-workflow-issues, itself stacked on #500), so this diff shows only this PR's changes. Replaces #498, which was opened from a fork.

"Show me the accessibility issues from Automate build <link>" had no route. The Accessibility API takes only its own build id and answers an Automate build id with 404 "Build not found", and nothing in the MCP mapped one to the other.

The mapping. A session run through the BrowserStack SDK belongs to the SDK's build, whose id is also the Accessibility build id. The session's test-code record names it as build_uuid:

GET {automation API}/ext/v1/sessions/{session_id}/testCode (public, basic auth; already used by the self-heal tools and in the TRA capability index as get_session_test_code)

So reportUrl now also takes:

Link Resolution Calls
Automate session (…/builds/{build}/sessions/{session}) session → build_uuid 1, + 1 to confirm the build has accessibility results
Automate build (…/builds/{build}) any session of the build (sessions.json?limit=1) → build_uuid 2, + 1

The resolved build then goes through #501's build export, so the count, duplicate folding, CSV link and paging are unchanged. A session link reads the whole build's issues; the tool description says so.

Failures say what happened instead of surfacing as a bare 404 from the export:

Case Message
Session not run through the SDK (testCode 404) not linked to a BrowserStack SDK build, so it has no accessibility results
SDK run without accessibility testing (Accessibility API 404 on the build) the run's build has no accessibility results: accessibility testing was not on for it
Unknown Automate build No Automate build with id …

The Automated Tests 404 hint (wrong kind of build id) now points at passing the Automate link as reportUrl.

Verification

Ran this branch's build against the real API:

reportUrl Result
Automate build link of an SDK run with accessibility Resolved to its Accessibility build: 182 issues, 66 duplicates folded (~9 s)
Automate session link from that build Same build and issues (~5 s)
Automate build of an SDK run without accessibility "…accessibility testing was not on for it"
Automate build whose session didn't use the SDK "…not linked to a BrowserStack SDK build…"
Unknown Automate build id "No Automate build with id …"

New tests cover both link shapes and the three failure cases; npm run build (lint, format, 1332 tests, tsc) passes.

Not in this PR: reading only one session's test (rather than its whole build). The build's testRuns tree links a session to its Accessibility test case (retries[].uuid), but how retried tests map sessions to attempts is unverified.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Accessibility reports can now be retrieved using Automate build or session links.
    • Automate links resolve to accessibility issues from the associated build when accessibility testing is enabled.
    • Website Scanner and Automated Tests dashboard links are supported as accessibility report sources.
  • Documentation

    • Clarified supported report links and identifiers, including the required accessibility build ID format.
    • Added guidance for providing a report link or starting a new scan when no accessibility source is available.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Added clearer errors for unavailable sessions, builds, SDK associations, or accessibility results.

…bility issues

"Show me the accessibility issues from Automate build <link>" had no route:
the Accessibility API takes only its own build id and answers an Automate
build id with 404, and nothing mapped one to the other.

A session run through the BrowserStack SDK belongs to the SDK's build, whose
id is also the Accessibility build id, and the session's test-code record
(GET /ext/v1/sessions/{id}/testCode, already used for self-healing) names it
as build_uuid. So reportUrl now takes an Automate session link (one call) or
build link (one more call, for any of its sessions) and reads that build's
issues through the existing build export.

A session not run through the SDK, an SDK run without accessibility testing
(a build the Accessibility API does not know) and an unknown Automate build
each get their own message instead of a bare 404, and the Automated Tests
404 hint now points at passing the Automate link.

📝 Walkthrough

The report fetcher now accepts Automate build and session links. It resolves build links through a first-session lookup, then uses the session’s SDK build_uuid to find an Accessibility build. Tool guidance and tests cover supported links, requirements, and failure cases.

Changes: Automate accessibility links

Accept and resolve Automate report links
src/tools/accessibility.ts, src/tools/accessiblity-utils/report-fetcher.ts, src/tools/tool-handoff.ts, tests/tools/accessibilityReportFetcher.test.ts
Tool guidance identifies Automate build and session links as reportUrl sources and distinguishes them from accessibility buildId values. The fetcher resolves Automate links through session data and the linked SDK build, and reports errors for missing sessions, SDK linkage, or accessibility results. Tests cover these resolution paths and errors.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 925cc

Some valid Automate session links may be rejected, and temporary build-lookup failures may produce misleading errors. These are bounded issues that can be fixed before merge or accepted with owner follow-up.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 925cc

The new lookup uses fixed or configured service addresses and retains existing export controls. No authorization bypass was demonstrated, but account-isolation guarantees across the services could not be verified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The newly reachable sensitive outcome is a whole-build accessibility CSV and its issues under the configured credentials. Effective maximum data exposure depends on account and permission enforcement by Automate and Accessibility; repository evidence does not establish those remote limits.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — No introduced arbitrary-destination request or authorization bypass was demonstrated. Automate links supply identifiers rather than destination URLs, and failed export initiation remains terminal. Direct Accessibility build export already existed before this PR, which is counterevidence against treating the permissive new preflight as a new export authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Automate parsing requires the exact dashboard hostname and 40-character hexadecimal path identifiers. Request identifiers are URL-encoded. Response-derived build_uuid is trusted as the Accessibility identity without a local account or session correspondence check; that relationship is delegated to the authenticated services.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Export task identity remains local to each invocation, with polling bound to its returned task_id. Polling stops after three attempts; timeout or interruption has no local cancellation, and repetition starts another export. These lifecycle behaviors predate this PR. Remote cleanup and task-ownership enforcement remain undocumented in the inspected source.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Require a successful Accessibility preflight before declaring resolution complete, and document or verify account authorization across session lookup, build lookup, export initiation, and task polling. These are boundary-assurance improvements, not evidence of a verified bypass.

Accept opaque Automate session IDs.

The matcher accepts only 40-character hexadecimal session IDs. Repository session data uses URLs such as sessions/sess-aaa. The matcher rejects these URLs before reportUrl reaches the session test-code lookup.

Reject unsuccessful Accessibility build lookups.

If the build lookup returns 401, 429, or 500, this check lets getReportLink proceed. The export request can then hide the lookup failure behind a different error. Reject every unsuccessful lookup, while keeping the specific 404 message for a build without accessibility results. The lookup is the build-summary API request. (browserstack.com)
