Locale currencies list offers only withdrawn codes for Belarus, Venezuela and Zambia #14627
Call the Locale service's list-currencies endpoint, or read app/config/locale/currencies.php, and look for the currency of Belarus, Venezuela or Zambia.
👍 Expected behavior
Each country's current ISO 4217 code is available, so an app building a currency picker can offer it.
👎 Actual behavior
For these three countries the list contains only a code ISO 4217 has withdrawn, and not its replacement:
country

in the list?
Belarus
BYR (line 217)
2016-07-01
BYN
no
Venezuela
VEF (line 1117)
2018-08-20
VES
no
Zambia
ZMK (line 1177)
2013-01-01
ZMW
no
So an app using the Locale API can offer its users the Zambian kwacha as it was before the 2013 redenomination, and has no way to offer the one in circulation. The redenominations also changed the minor unit, so an amount entered against ZMK is scaled wrongly against ZMW.
The other withdrawn codes in the file — EEK, HRK, LTL, LVL, BGN — are a different case: those countries adopted the euro and EUR is in the list, so there is a correct choice available. I would leave those alone.
I checked the list against ISO 4217 list one as published on 2026-09-17. The file is a curated subset of 117 currencies rather than the full register, so this is not about completeness — only about the three countries whose sole entry is obsolete.

👀 Have you spent some time to check if this issue has been raised before?
CONTRIBUTING.md asks for an issue before a PR, so I am opening this first. I have the patch ready — adding BYN, VES and ZMW beside the existing entries, keeping the old codes so nothing breaks for apps already using them — and will send it if you would like to assign this to me.
