[FEATURE]: Pin sessions to the top of the Home session list #57738

Description

@LikwunCheung

Feature hasn't been suggested before.

  • I have verified this feature I'm about to request hasn't been suggested before.

Describe the enhancement you want to request

Home lists sessions by date only, so sessions I keep coming back to drift down as new sessions land. One I use as a scratchpad and one I watch all day sink past the 64-row window within a few weeks and are only reachable through search.

I want to pin a session so it stays at the top of the list:

  • Right-click a session on Home → Pin. Pinned sessions move into a Pinned group above Today, in the order they were pinned, and stay out of the dated groups.
  • The same toggle is a command, session.pin, so it can be run from the command palette or bound to a shortcut in Settings → Shortcuts. It reads "Unpin session" once the open session is pinned.
  • Pin state is local to the app, like tab layout, keyed per server. No server or protocol change.
  • Pinned sessions are fetched by ID when they fall outside the loaded session index, so an old pin still shows up.

Things I deliberately left out, in case design review wants them instead: pinning from the session tab's context menu, and a server-side pinned field so the set follows the user across machines.

Implementation: #57788 (pin state is local to the app, so nothing changes on the server).

    Thanks for the clear write-up! I think this is a duplicate of #55764, which asks for the same thing: a Pinned group above Today on the Desktop/Web Home session list, pin/unpin from a session's row menu, and pins kept across restarts. A contributor there has already proposed nearly the design you describe: pins stored locally and keyed per server, kept outside the 64-row window, and old pins fetched by ID.

    Possible duplicates and related issues, ordered by likelihood:

    The extras you mention, like the session.pin command with a bindable shortcut and listing pins in the order they were pinned, would be useful to add as a comment on #55764.

    The bot will close this issue as a duplicate in 1 day unless you reply explaining how your request is different.
