🎯 Changes

#11392 stopped added from wiping a query that already has data, but a query that failed has no data either, so it still got reset to the sender's fresh pending state when another tab built the same key. The error was lost and the query sat in pending / idle with nothing fetching.

Now added is only applied to a query without data when the incoming state has settled (success or error). A brand-new pending state from another tab carries nothing new, so there's no reason to take it.

Fixes #12213

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Prevented incoming pending “added” events without data from overwriting existing queries, including queries in an error state.
    • Preserved existing error statuses and details when data-less pending updates are received.
    • Allowed incoming error-state updates to populate existing queries that have no data.
  • Tests

    • Added regression coverage for pending and error-state broadcast updates involving existing data-less queries.

📝 Walkthrough

The added broadcast handler no longer applies an incoming pending state to an existing query with undefined data. Tests cover retained errors and incoming error updates. A patch changeset documents the fix.

Explanation

The change satisfies issue #12213. The added handler updates an existing data-less query only when the incoming state is settled, because it rejects status: 'pending'. The regression tests verify that a fresh pending state does not replace an existing error and that an incoming error state is adopted. The changeset documents the published package fix.

Cover adoption of an incoming settled error.

The guard adopts an incoming added state with status: 'error', but the regression test exercises only the pending preservation branch. Add a second message at this test boundary and assert that the incoming error replaces the existing error.
