🎯 Changes

  • Keep newer debounced work, running caller results, and abort signals separate when async executions overlap. Preserve flushed async throttler callers' results and rejections when newer calls or cancellation occur.
  • Preserve active work across reset() in all five async utilities without allowing an older completion to remove newer work. Explicit execution count lookups restart after reset; captured signals and default signal lookup still reach older active work.
  • Let new queue items fill free concurrency slots while preserving scheduled wait delays and live slots across reset. Manual calls cannot remove an automatic execution's slot.
  • Add 39 lifecycle regressions, update the affected guides and API references, and include a patch changeset. pnpm test and pnpm run test:pr pass all 330 tasks across 169 projects; the core bundle is 7.46 kB, below its 10 kB limit.

Closes #186
Closes #257
Closes #269

Adapts the execution and signal fixes from #265 and #266 by @SimenB.

✅ Checklist

  • I have followed the steps in the Contributing guide.
  • I have tested code changes locally with pnpm run test:pr, or these tests do not apply to this pull request.
  • I fully understand the code in this pull request, including any code generated with AI assistance.

🚀 Release Impact

  • This change affects published code, and I have generated a changeset.
  • This change is docs/CI/dev-only (no release).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Async batching, debouncing, throttling, rate limiting, and queuing now handle overlapping executions and resets more consistently. Active work remains trackable and abortable, and its completion updates the appropriate state.
    • Throttled and debounced calls now receive the result or error from the execution they started, including when work is flushed.
    • Queue processing better preserves concurrency limits and scheduled delays.
  • Documentation

    • Clarified reset, execution-state, result, and abort-signal behavior across async guides and API references.

Keep pending work and caller results separate from running executions. Track
active retryers by identity across resets, and use spare queue capacity without
bypassing scheduled waits. Cover execution ordering, aborts, reset collisions,
and queue reentrancy with lifecycle regressions.

Adapt the async execution and signal fixes from #265 and #266.

commit: 30def73

Track active retryers independently of resettable public counts so older
completions cannot remove newer executions or prevent their cancellation.
Preserve running queue items and wait timers across reset. Only automatically
scheduled executions may release their concurrency slots; direct executions
must not remove an unrelated active item with the same value.

Cover completion ordering, repeated resets, abort signals, current-generation
lookups, concurrency, scheduled waits, duplicate values, and manual execution.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Keep an armed wait timer authoritative.

With concurrency: 2 and a positive wait, two completions can arm different timers. If the first timer fires while the queue is empty, #tick() sets pendingTick to false while the second timer remains armed. An item added before the second timer expires starts immediately through this condition. Check #timeoutIds.size before either branch starts a tick, so the item keeps the remaining wait delay.
