Goal

Backends before v239.47.0 replay channel.hidden on /sync without clear_history, and channel.visible without channel. Both fields were required, so a /sync that replayed either event failed as a whole, and every missed event in it was lost.

Closes AND-1611

Implementation

  • channel.hidden without clear_history parses with clearHistory = false.
  • channel.visible without channel carries a channel with only its type and id. The KDoc on ChannelVisibleEvent.channel says so.
  • The grouped channel list resolves the group of a channel.visible from the cached channel when there is one, so an event with only type and id still lands in the right group.

Testing

  • Unit tests parse both events in the replayed shape, and cover the grouped routing.
  • On a device, hide a channel with clearHistory = true, hide and show another, then call getSyncHistory for both: the response parses with both events. On develop the same call fails with Required value 'clear_history' missing.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved handling of channel visibility events replayed after reconnection, including events with limited channel details.
    • Older channel-hidden events can now be processed when they omit the clear-history setting.

Walkthrough

The changes allow channel.hidden and channel.visible replay events to omit fields provided by newer backends. Channel-visible mapping creates a minimal channel when needed, and grouped event handling uses cached channel data for ID-and-type-only events.

Changes

Sync Replay Event Compatibility

Layer / File(s) Summary
Replay event DTOs and mapping
stream-chat-android-client/src/main/java/io/getstream/chat/android/client/api2/model/dto/EventDtos.kt, stream-chat-android-client/src/main/java/io/getstream/chat/android/client/api2/mapping/EventMapping.kt, stream-chat-android-client/src/main/java/io/getstream/chat/android/client/events/ChatEvent.kt, stream-chat-android-client/src/test/java/io/getstream/chat/android/client/EventChatJsonProvider.kt, stream-chat-android-client/src/test/java/io/getstream/chat/android/client/api2/mapping/EventMappingTestArguments.kt, stream-chat-android-client/src/test/java/io/getstream/chat/android/client/parser/EventArguments.kt
The DTOs allow omitted replay fields. Mapping creates a minimal Channel when a visible-event DTO has no channel. Tests cover the replay payloads and mapped values.
Grouped visible-event routing

Visible events use the cached channel when the event contains only its ID and type. Tests cover cached and event-channel routing cases.

A group-specific channel list can miss a channel when a replay omits channel data and no cached record exists. The narrow fallback is straightforward to fix.

A rabbit reads the replayed stream,
Where fields are few but IDs gleam.
A cached channel joins the way,
The group check guides events to stay.
Soft paws test each mapping through,
Then hop along with fields anew.
