I'm a software engineer and consultant based in central Iowa. I enjoy working on hard problems at the intersection of software architecture, applied AI, cloud infrastructure, and developer experience.
Much of my work involves taking emerging technologies and figuring out how to make them useful, reliable, and maintainable in real systems.
- 🤖 Applied AI: building AI-enabled systems, agents, evaluations, observability, and the infrastructure around them
- 🏗️ Software architecture: designing backend and platform systems that can evolve without becoming painful to operate
- ☁️ Cloud & infrastructure: automation, Infrastructure as Code, containers, distributed systems, and production operations
- 🛠️ Building & experimenting: usually with Python, TypeScript, and whatever else is appropriate for the problem
- 🏠 Homelab: maintaining my own infrastructure gives me a place to experiment with networking, virtualization, storage, and self-hosted software
- 🎤 Teaching & speaking: I enjoy sharing what I learn through conference talks, technical presentations, and conversations with other engineers
I'm particularly interested in the gap between "this works in a demo" and "this is a system I would trust in production."
Most of what you'll find here is the result of me learning something, experimenting with an idea, or building a tool I wanted to exist.
