Qlty uses a GitHub App to integrate with GitHub.

Authentication

GitHub OAuth is the only supported authentication method for Qlty. As part of the User authentication flow, the following permissions are granted:

Account Permissions

Permissions

When installed, the GitHub App requires the following permissions:

Repository Permissions

Organization Permissions

Accepting new permissions

When Qlty adds a permission to the GitHub App, installations made before the change keep their old permissions until an owner accepts the new one. GitHub emails the organization’s owners, and features that need the permission do not work until it is accepted. The Workflows permission was added in September 2026, so installations made before then may not have granted it. To accept it:
  1. Open the installation’s settings on GitHub. For an organization, go to Organization settings > Third-party access > GitHub Apps and click Configure next to Qlty. For a personal account, go to Settings > Applications > Installed GitHub Apps.
  2. GitHub shows a banner asking you to review the new permissions. Click Review request, then Accept new permissions.
Only an organization owner can accept. Pages in Qlty that are blocked on a permission link to this settings page.

Repository Access

Access can be granted either to all repositories in a workspace, or individual repositories. By default, after authorization importing repositories as Qlty projects must be done manually. (In the future, we may provide an opt-in feature to automatically import repositories for convenience.)

Webhooks

In order to analyze new commits and keep data syncronized, Qlty subscribed to GitHub webhooks.
