Be direct and technical. Skip praise and restatements of the diff. Flag only
findings you can justify from the code; when unsure, stay silent.

instructions: >-
CommonJS only (module.exports/require; no import/export syntax). Types
are JSDoc @typedef annotations, never TypeScript syntax in .js files.
Must run on Node >= 10.13: flag optional chaining (?.), nullish
coalescing (??), and newer runtime APIs. Every instance field must be
initialized in the constructor (V8 shape stability); never `delete` an
instance field. Path-shape regexps and helpers must be imported from
lib/util/identifier.js, never re-declared locally. A plain // or /* */
comment is at most three lines and must add non-obvious information; a
// WHY: comment and the block before a file's first statement are
exempt. JSDoc tags are exempt too, and a JSDoc description is capped at
two sentences rather than lines. Prefer specific types over
EXPECTED_ANY/unknown when a real type fits.
- path: "hot/**"
instructions: >-
Runtime code shipped to browsers; same Node >= 10.13 syntax baseline as
lib/, plus no Node-only APIs.
- path: "lib/runtime/**"
instructions: >-
Runtime templates are per-target. A change here usually needs matching
changes for the other targets (web/JSONP, esm, node, webworker, deno,
electron, bun, universal) and an integration case per affected target.
- path: "schemas/**"
instructions: >-
Schema edits must be followed by `yarn fix:special` regeneration in the
same PR (validators, declarations, types.d.ts). New options need
`"added": "<next-release-version>"`; experimental options need
`"experimental": true`. Pure $ref properties cannot carry annotations.
- path: "test/**"
instructions: >-
Prefer integration cases (configCases/, watchCases/, hotCases/, ...)
over unit tests. Bug fixes need a test that fails before the fix.
Snapshot printed output; use explicit expect() for behavior. New
configCases must pass ConfigCacheTestCases too - flag test.filter.js
files that only exclude the cache suite.
- path: "tooling/**"
instructions: >-
Generators must derive tables from published datasets (mdn-data,
color-name, vendored webref) rather than hand-typing name lists; a
SUPPLEMENT entry needs a stated reason it cannot be derived.
- path: ".changeset/**"
instructions: >-
One changeset per PR; single imperative sentence <= 80 chars, capitalized,
trailing period, no fix:/feat: prefix; patch/minor/major must match the
actual change; filename NNN-description.md with zero-padded ordering prefix.
