I think the DAW issue is a bit overkill, for simple use cases like just wanting to practice drums against a song or something, it's more than enough to have a simple player built in that can have allow me to only play bass, vocals and drums while I practice
Adding hundreds of lines of code and importing libraries just to add a feature that you can do in three seconds by importing the multiple tracks to a DAW.
The DAW gives you thousands of possibilities; adding this feature would just give you a mediocre player and mixer.
I'd recommend you download Reaper.
It's basically free, very light, and easy to understand.
If you wanna something open-source there is Ardour and Audacity.
