pyproject.toml will be needed to avoid warnign at install #208

Open

Description

@samuelgarcia

Hi Andrew,
with a fresh install I get this

  DEPRECATION: quantities is being installed using the legacy 'setup.py install' method, because it does not have a 'pyproject.toml' and the 'wheel' package is not installed. pip 23.1 will enforce this behaviour change. A possible replacement is to enable the '--use-pep517' option. Discussion can be found at https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/8559

here also the pyproject.toml will be necessary I think.

    While we are at it, we should drop distutils from setup.py too, (Python 3.12 alpha doesn't even include it any longer).
    Also, building python3 wheels will pretty much come automatic which is nice since it will enable use of:

    >>> %pip install -q quantities
    ValueError: Can't find a pure Python 3 wheel for 'quantities'.
    See: https://pyodide.org/en/stable/usage/faq.html#micropip-can-t-find-a-pure-python-wheel

    in pyiodide kernels in e.g. jupyterlite
