Relatively competent coder here, but not sure where to make modifications or add subclasses...

I would like to implement an axis that is for DateTime values and has multiple tiers for displaying tic values and marks. The tiers to display would be user specified or automatically determined based on a the axis range. The 'TimeMachine' effect would be more apparent during a pan or a programmatically animated pan.

Here is a picture of the tiers, in this case probably only the year and month tiers would be specified to be drawn. I think I would either subclass LinearAxis, or have to create an entirely new Axis class, and probably have to modify the axes renderer (not sure where that is done)
