@vgcpge - it may be worth adding a 404 handler, or static page like Eclipse's download server has. See https://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/latest/ for an example.

@jonahgraham this had been a second misreport, so I had to add a shim.

Yes, it's definitely possible as the API is public. But it requires someone who's motivated and possesses the required technical skills.

Hi @toddewilliams, could you please share some insights on this? Is there any documentation on the public APIs, or is this based on reverse engineering of the existing plugins?

There is a Copilot API Guide that's a great place to start.

EDIT: Ignore my comment here as it's unrelated. Didn't delete it just to provide transparency.

Thank you for the reference, Todd! I’m still a bit confused. This thread is about making GitHub Copilot available in Eclipse. Your reference is for the APIs at https://www.copilot.com/, which is a third-party company not related to GitHub Copilot, as they explicitly stated:

We're a client portal SaaS company and not affiliated with the following:
Microsoft (ewww)
GitHub
Copilot AI
Copilot Money
Copilot Fitness (My Copilot)
Education Copilot
Copilot GPS

Could you clarify how using public APIs from https://www.copilot.com/ relates to GitHub Copilot?

Wow, thanks for pointing this out. I had just done a quick search and it seemed on point.

I'm not one of the active developers working on this here. I inquired internally and was simply told that "our policy is that we aren't going to discuss our methods or techniques".

Sorry about that.

I believe this plugin could be a great starting point for an official version.

By their actions (and inactions), Microsoft and GitHub have shown that they're at best uninterested in Eclipse.

On the other hand, Genuitec helped to create the Eclipse Foundation and has been building a portfolio of professional Eclipse development tools for over 20 years.

Given our pedigree, I'll assert that Genuitec's deep roots in the Eclipse community make Copilot4Eclipse the official plugin for our community.

I totally agree. Just wanted to support your previous comment 😉

Thank you for everything you do for the community!

I can certainly understand that sentiment since Eclipse remains very popular and I originally felt the same way.

But seeing what it takes to create a first-class integration like Copilot4Eclipse has caused me to consider an explanation that might explain GitHub's inaction.

And that is simply the issue of opportunity cost. Simply stated, if they spend resources creating and maintaining an Eclipse integration, what are they not doing with those resources instead?

Perhaps the incremental revenue they'd make on Eclipse isn't what they'd make by using those resources to improve their models, or integrate new ones, for example.

I have to admit in hindsight that it's been a brilliant play to ignore Eclipse. GitHub did nothing and Genuitec stepped in and built their Copilot integration plugin at no cost to them. Even better, we've opened up a completely new IDE family as a subscription revenue stream for them so it's 100% pure profit.

At this point they're continuing to ignore Eclipse simply because it's their smartest move for their business; they get everything they want without doing anything.

Kudos to their business acumen.

Thank you Genuitec for this effort!

Shameless Commercial Plug Alert: If you'd like Spring Tool Suite with Spring-specific AI from Copilot, we built that all into MyEclipse 2025 Spring + AI Edition. You can find out more about it here, if you like, but it's not free, so if you simply won't even consider paying for profession tools, DO NOT LOOK here.

something is no/yes here

Thanks @fidley, we will improve the plugin lifecycle in the next release. Appreciate for the feedback.

I also tried to install it. It worked for me.
But it seems to not supporting ABAP .
JAVA is working in eclipse but when opening ADT files I receive this error message - and no code completion:

eclipse.buildId=4.34.0.20241128-0756
java.runtime.name=OpenJDK Runtime Environment
java.runtime.version=21.0.3+9-LTS

This message still appears multiple times even after I dismiss it.

Disabling sttrict SSL help to get rid o my initial problem, now second appeared. With Java editor.

For ABAP language I have same issue like @mintert91. Copilot4Eclipse works here without issues.

Hi @hieplq ,

Thanks for the feedback. Could you please let me know if the dialogue appears multiple times when Eclipse starts up, or does it occur every time you type a character on the keyboard?

Also, you can submit feedback here in the future to get a quicker response: https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/151288

@fidley we are looking into the invalid thread access issue. Thank you for reporting it.

It requires jgit, and it seems that your STM32CubeIDE does not contains it. Is is possible to install jgit into your ide as well?

I don't think it's possible, and if it were possible I have no idea how to do it. This means that Copilot will no longer be usable in ST embedded environment. In the current installed version JGIT was not necessary but now it is no longer possible to perform updates and have support for GPT4.1

Have you tried those Claude models?

Yes. I also tried changing image formats.
Copilot do not identify the image as current file. I have added it manually.

Wired. I cannot reproduce the issue. Does it work before on your machine?

This is the first time I tried this
