How Do Sites Like DriveSeed and GDFlix Generate Google-Hosted Direct Video Download URLs? #210322

Hi! From what I understand, Google Drive's preview player may obtain media URLs through internal playback mechanisms, but these endpoints are not necessarily part of the public Google Drive API and may change without notice. For a supported implementation, I'd suggest investigating these options:
One important distinction is that a URL returned by Google's video playback system may be a temporary, session-specific media URL rather than a permanent download link. Its availability, authentication requirements, and Range request support can vary. I'd also be interested in any documented research or open-source implementations that explain the playback URL generation process without depending on undocumented internal endpoints. |

Hey there! 👋 Thanks for posting in the GitHub Community, @kelvinsoft1 ! You are more likely to get a useful response if you are posting in the applicable category. The Apps, API and Webhooks category is a place for our community to discuss and provide feedback GitHub's APIs and webhooks. GitHub provides two APIs: a REST API and a GraphQL API. Webhooks allow you to build or set up integrations, such as GitHub Apps or OAuth Apps, which subscribe to certain events on GitHub.com I've gone ahead and moved this to the correct category for you. Good luck! |

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to understand how websites like DriveSeed and GDFlix generate direct download URLs for video files stored on Google Drive.
I've noticed that some of these services generate URLs using domains such as:
"video-downloads.googleusercontent.com"
These URLs appear to point directly to Google's video delivery infrastructure rather than the usual Google Drive download endpoint.
I understand that the official Google Drive API supports downloading files using "files.get" with "alt=media", but I'm specifically interested in how these services obtain the actual Google-hosted video URL.
My questions are:
My goal is to implement a similar system on my own website, allowing users to download videos directly from Google-hosted URLs without routing the entire video through my server or downloading and re-uploading the files.
I'm particularly interested in the technical process behind generating these URLs, rather than the standard Google Drive sharing links or "uc?export=download" method.
Any technical explanations, code examples, or relevant GitHub repositories would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
