Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

The feature request for an option to restore the Nextcloud 33 menu bar instead of the pop-up menu in Nextcloud 34 is an efficiency issue. (granted not a huge one)

With the new pop-up menu, there are at least 2 mouse-click required to navigate between app instead of the single-click that the Nextcloud 33 menu bar provided.

Additionally, and what I find annoying, is you now have to open the menu and then consciously scan for the app you need to activate, where before with the apps fixed in the menu bar at the top of the screen, you were always oriented to the position of the apps in the bar.

I'm not against the new menu, but it does appear to be gee-whiz for gee-whiz's sake since no vertical space is saved in the bar, you just lose the apps being permanently listed. Showing the currently open app in the menu bar is a bit pointless as the app is open in front of you. The new search-box in the middle of the bar has absolutely no value to me and is just wasted space where the functional app menu used to be.

Describe the solution you'd like

I would like to see an option in the User Interface section that lets you choose:

  [x] Traditional Menu Bar
  [ ] New Pop-up Menu

Describe alternatives you've considered

I've looked, and currently there are no options to allow choosing the traditional menu bar anywhere in the settings.

Additional context

The New Pop-up Menu takes what was a concise single-row app selection across the top bar and create a multi-line grid that is a bit more cumbersome to use:

I've attempted to add the screen shot of the new menu I see, but this continually results in "<!-- Failed to upload "nc-34-menu.png" -->" being inserted instead. I don't know if this is a Firefox 152 problem, or settings with the nextcloud/server issue tracking page? Oh well, you know what it looks like.

As a workaround, I've posted the image of the menu to the openSUSE pastes site. (good until July 22, 2026)
