V4 Roadmap

This issue tracks the changes we are currently considering for Task v4.

Nothing listed here is final or guaranteed to be part of v4. The goal for now is to gather the changes that could justify a major version, align on the overall direction, and identify potential breaking changes.

Changes under consideration

• Migrate module to vanity domain
  • From: github.com/go-task/task/v3
  • To: taskfile.dev/task/v4 (or taskfile.dev/v4?)
  • This should be done right before the release, not sooner.
• Scoped variables
• Drop preconditions in favor of if, with a way to halt instead of skipping
• Separate env and vars
• Rename ignore_error to continue-on-error
• Add option to customise interpreter that executes commands #448

As decisions are made, this issue will be updated to reflect the scope of v4 more accurately.
