BLD/DEP: any cp315-abi3t wheel requires numpy>=2.5.0 at runtime #20493
targeting abi3t for C code that depends on numpy explicitly requires setting at least this build-time requirement #define NPY_TARGET_VERSION NPY_2_5_API_VERSION
but then the resulting binary cannot be used against any older version at runtime. Even by SPEC 0, this is a very aggressive runtime requirement to make. I'm planning to experiment with building cp315-abi3t wheels, but publishing them would require adding logic to the build system so that the runtime requirement on numpy can be modified dynamically at build time. This issue is a reminder of that, and a sub-issue to #19249
It is definitely possible to run numpy-dependent abi3t wheels against older numpy at runtime. I just confirmed it with some PyO3-based extensions. I might look there for a solution.

Hey @neutrinoceros
is it open for contribution?

not at the moment. This is a reminder issue for when existing blockers are lifted.
