I have 1 chat open with the beam-free model and every prompt it says "Rate limit exceeded" . Making the cli and app unsuable since 1 chat cannot be completed.
Thanks for the report, and sorry about the trouble. Getting "Rate limit exceeded" on every prompt, even in a single chat, is frustrating.
That error comes from the OpenCode Zen service, which limits how much the free models (like Beam Free) can be used. The limit is applied on the server, not in the app, so restarting or reinstalling OpenCode won't clear it. Only the team can check what's happening with your account's usage and when it resets.
Billing and account support isn't handled in GitHub issues. Please email help@anoma.ly and include when it started and which model(s) you were using. If you've already emailed them, the team will get to it, especially now that we've seen it here. Please keep email addresses, account details and any payment information out of this public issue and put them only in the email.
I understand the frustration. Being blocked when you've only used one chat feels broken.
The free-model limits on OpenCode Zen don't count chats. They're applied by the Zen service on the server, to your account or network as a whole, so having only one chat open doesn't keep you under them. The "Rate limit exceeded" text isn't generated by the app. It just shows what the service sends back, and it doesn't currently say which limit you hit or when it resets. That's why only the team can tell you what's going on with your account, by email at help@anoma.ly. Please keep account details out of this issue and put them in the email.
Your point about showing a free model you can't actually use, or at least explaining the limit, is fair. Existing feature requests already cover it:
If you think the app itself is at fault, please reply with the details. For example: the error appears on the very first prompt after hours of not using it, or other free models or another network work while Beam Free doesn't. We'll look into it as a bug. Otherwise, the bot will still close this issue as planned.
Yeah you're the one supposed to find out why ? this issue will not be closed since this is making the app and cli unsuable. Sent an email as well to email u said.
Thanks for emailing help@anoma.ly. That's the right place for this, and the team will look into it there, especially now that we've seen it here.
I understand it's blocking you. The reason it can't be investigated in this issue is that the cause isn't in the OpenCode app or CLI code. The app shows the error that the Zen service returns. Why your account or network is being limited can only be seen in the service's own records, and the support team has access to those, not GitHub issues. Closing this issue won't stop or affect your email request.
In the meantime, you can keep working by switching to another model or provider with /models, for example another provider you have an API key for.
If you see something that points at the app itself, please reply here. For example, the same account works from another network or another client but not from OpenCode 2.0.32. We'll then look into it as a bug.
I have been having the same issue ever since I moved from the 1.x.x version to this 2.x.x version. I understand having the rate limit on some models due to usage or whatever but I have had this on different networks in different areas on completely different machines around the same time. And it is not just the chat/cli is having issues, even trying to do opencode auth login opencode gives me a 429 rate limit error!
Like you mean to stay I am rate limited of logging into my damn account? What kinda service is this??
Hi @kridaydave, I'm closing this issue now because account and usage-limit problems are handled by email, not in GitHub issues. Closing it doesn't affect your support request. Since you've already emailed help@anoma.ly, the team will follow up there. If anything else comes up about your account or limits, please write to that same address, and keep account details out of public issues.
If you later see signs that the OpenCode app itself is at fault, for example the same account works from another client or network but not from OpenCode, please open a new issue with those details. Thanks for your patience, and sorry again for the disruption.
