[Desktop] Theme dropdown won't reopen immediately after selecting a theme #43750

Closed as not planned

Description

Description

In the desktop app (Electron), the Theme dropdown in File → Settings → Appearance
(the selector below the Dark/Light mode toggle) stops opening immediately after a theme
is selected. It only opens again after clicking somewhere outside the selector first.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open the app → hamburger menu → File → Settings
  2. In the Appearance section, open the Theme dropdown and select any theme (this works fine)
  3. Immediately click the dropdown again to choose another theme

Expected Behavior

The dropdown reopens so another theme can be selected.

Actual Behavior

The dropdown does not open when clicked again immediately after selecting a theme.
Behavior differs depending on the state:

Before the second open attempt (right after selecting a theme): clicking anywhere
outside the selector first (anywhere in the settings body, or even right-clicking on
the chat canvas) keeps it working - the next click on the dropdown opens it normally.

Once the dropdown has failed to open (stuck state):

  • Left-clicking outside the selector no longer helps. At this point, only closing and
reopening the Settings panel restores it.
  • Right-clicking directly on the selector does unlock it: a "Select all"
text-selection affordance flashes for about a second (as if the control were being
treated as plain HTML content), after which left-click opens the dropdown normally.
  • The AMOLED theme is exempt: after selecting it, the dropdown reopens normally
without needing any of the above.

Workaround

  • To prevent it: click once outside the selector between theme selections.
  • If already stuck: right-click directly on the selector (ignore the brief "Select all"
flash), then left-click to open - or close and reopen Settings entirely.

Additional Context

Speculation: after applying a theme, some focus/state in the settings UI seems to swallow
the next dropdown toggle. AMOLED may be exempt because it is handled differently from the
other themes (built-in/native vs. the rest).

Environment

  • App: OpenCode Desktop 1.18.19
  • OS: Windows 11 IoT Enterprise, Build 26200 (64-bit)

Thanks for the report! OpenCode 2.0 is now out and development is focused on V2, so we're closing issues filed against OpenCode 1. Please upgrade (opencode upgrade --major, details: https://anoma.ly/notes/opencode-2-0), and if this is still relevant on 2.0, reopen this issue or open a new one with your 2.0 version.
