Ever since aliases were mostly stripped away it has been very clunky to make code that works for an entire category of items, such as those belonging to a specific tag. For example,
is now
in the best case, which is rather unintuitive.
Skript would benefit from first-class support for item tags similar to how particle types have language-level support, and re-introducing syntax like
if the player's tool is a swordin a limited form could make Skript much more intuitive for beginners without the pitfalls of aliases.A naïve implementation would be, for example,
item/block/entity categorytypes that mirror the values of the corresponding tag. This combined with a literal likeany %*itemcategory/blockcategory/entitycategory%that returns an or-list of the contents of the category would be sufficient foron right click with any hoeto work.Would love to hear the team's thoughts, particularly about if such an implementation is possible at all and the types of ambiguities involved. For example, we probably don't want
whether event-block is a grass blockto betruefor podzol, despite podzol being in thegrass_blockstag. Some tags are also fairly useless, e.g.tool is any gold tool materialwould be the same astool is gold ingot. All reactions
