Amp streams and downloads from a server you run, or files on the phone. Downloads are kept for offline listening, and it falls back to them on its own when the connection goes. Synced lyrics, casting to a DLNA speaker, playlists, likes and ratings all work against the server they came from.
Built on Light’s SDK, in the Light aesthetic: no artwork unless you want it, optional color, and an A–Z index down the side of every long list. The library is three buttons at the bottom by default — library, search, now playing.

A calm messaging tool for the Light Phone III — one place for WhatsApp, Instagram, and other chat networks, via end-to-end-encrypted Matrix.
Chats brings WhatsApp, Instagram, and your other chats to your Light Phone III, built with the Light Phone SDK.
Features
- One Inbox: WhatsApp, Instagram, and other networks in a single chat list, with a network selector (All / WhatsApp / Instagram) so you can focus on one at a time.
- End-to-End Encryption: Every conversation is encrypted end to end — Chats runs on Matrix, with simple emoji-based device verification and recovery-key login.
- Background Sync: A companion app hosts the connection, so messages keep arriving and notifying even when the tool is closed.
- Instant Notifications: One calm notification per room; a push channel wakes the sync the moment a message arrives, so delivery is instant.
- Voice Notes & Photos: Record, send, and play voice notes (Opus, roughly half the size of the earlier AAC), and attach photos via the system photo picker.
- Battery-Conscious Sync: With the screen off, sync stretches to a slow idle cadence — and a Settings toggle pauses sync entirely when you don’t need it.
- Minimalist Aesthetic: A quiet, text-first interface inspired by the philosophy of Light OS.

Correspondence chess for the Light Phone III.
Correspondence chess for the Light Phone III. It pulls your ongoing Lichess correspondence games into a clean, minimal screen that fits how the phone is meant to be used: you glance at it a few times a day, make your move, and put it down.
No blitz, no bullet, no timer. Just your correspondence games, waiting until you have a minute.
Identify bird sounds in real time, entirely on the phone. A restyled fork of whoBIRD.
LightOS menu lists it as Chirp. Leave it listening and it names what it hears, with the bird’s photo as the one bit of colour in an otherwise black and white app.
It is a fork of whoBIRD by woheller69, rebuilt with Light’s own UI components so every screen belongs on the phone. The identification is untouched: BirdNET running on the device, over 6,000 species, no internet once the model has downloaded.
Everything heard goes into a Collection, a full-bleed photo grid you can open or delete from. Settings are cut back to the three that matter on a phone you carry for this: location, detection threshold, and whether to keep the recordings.
GPLv3, like the original. The BirdNET models are CC BY-NC-SA, non-commercial, and download at first start rather than shipping in the APK. It installs alongside whoBIRD rather than replacing it.

MLB scores, box scores, and standings for the Light Phone III.
This is an app for MLB scores, box scores, and standings for the Light Phone III, based on the style of vandamd’s LightOS tools.
The data comes from a public API, so there is no login required. (And therefore also no MLB.com features, including streaming game audio, etc.)
Features
- Scores - the full slate for any date, with
‹ date ›arrows to browse and a tap on the date to jump back to today. Live games show the inning (“Bot 2nd”), finished games the final (“Final/11”), upcoming games the start time. Auto-refreshes every 60 seconds while games are live. - Box scores - tap any started game for a box score; you may have to side scroll if a came goes into extra innings. For live games you can see the current count, runners, and outs, which auto-refreshes every 45 seconds while the game is live.
- Standings - all six divisions with W-L, games back (“GB”), wild card games back (“WCGB”), and the team’s record over the last 10 games (“L10”).
Everything is drawn in Public Sans on pure black, matching the LightOS look: no images, no color, no scrollbars — just text you can read at a glance.
Data
All data comes from MLB’s free, public Stats API (statsapi.mlb.com) — no account, no API key. Per MLB Advanced Media’s terms this data is for personal, non-commercial use only. A community-built API, CLI, and TUI for managing music, notes, podcasts, and tools without the Light dashboard.
A community-built API, CLI, and TUI for managing music, notes, podcasts, and tools without the Light dashboard. Built by and for terminal enthusiasts and developers alike.
This was made by reverse-engineering the cloud API powering the official web dashboard. (With Light’s permission!)
Highlights
- Music
- Upload FLAC files without mangling your metadata. The CLI pre-converts all FLAC files to MP3 before uploading, since Light’s servers botch track metadata for non-MP3 files.
- Smarter uploads. Auto-detect pre-existing duplicate tracks when uploading and choose to skip or overwrite.
- Sort tracks alphabetically by title. The official dashboard only support sorting by artist.
- Regex search support. Target tracks to delete with a regex filter for its title, artist, or album metadata, and optionally drop into an interactive picker to narrow the selection even further.
- Bulk edit track metadata with interactive selection support.
- TUI: Vim binds. Work with tracks individually or in visual block mode.
- Notes
- Add new notes from the command line. Specify its content inline or read it from file.
- Bulk download all notes.
- TUI: Vim binds. Copy text notes to clipboard, play/pause audio notes inline, and edit text notes in
$EDITOR.
NOTE: This project is still early in development and somewhat unstable. Please report any issues!

Live New York City subway arrival times for the Light Phone III, read straight from the MTA feeds with no API key and no middle server.
LightOS lists it as Subway Times. Star the stations you use and the app opens on them, uptown in one column and downtown in the other, soonest train first. It draws the real route bullets, so a 6 reads as a 6 rather than a letter in a box.
It reads the MTA GTFS-realtime feeds directly. There is no key to get and no server of mine in the path. Each station maps to the feeds that serve it, and those are fetched together, so a feed that fails leaves the rest of the board standing rather than emptying it.
A bundled catalog of 445 stations covers the whole system. Stations are merged by MTA complex ID, so a transfer station appears once instead of four times. Near me sorts by distance, and the borough chips filter the list.
Built with the Light SDK, in the tool module the SDK reserves for it. It asks for network
access, and for location so that Near me works.
A movie ticket stub collector for the Light Phone III, which reads the title, theater, date, time and seat off a photo of the stub using your own Anthropic API key.
Point the camera at a ticket stub, or import a photo of one. The app reads the fields off the paper, crops the stub, and files it by showtime. Stubs move to an archive once the film has ended. Every field stays editable, and a search list fixes the film when the parser picks the wrong one. Tickets live in a local database, with no account and no server.
You bring your own API keys. Reading a stub needs an Anthropic key, because Claude does the parsing; without one the app cannot read a ticket, though you can still enter a stub by hand. A TMDb key is optional and only adds posters and the film search list. Enter both in Settings, or scan them from a QR code so you do not have to type a long key on the phone keyboard. The keys stay on the device.
Two things are worth knowing before you install it. This is a plain sideloaded Android app
rather than a Light SDK tool, so it uses CameraX and the standard keyboard. And the detail
page turns the system grayscale filter off while a stub is open, which is why the posters
in the screenshots show color. The filter returns when you close the page. That behavior
needs one adb permission grant and does nothing without it.
A PDF viewer tool that helps you read your PDF files on your Light Phone 3.
A PDF viewer tool that helps you read your PDF files on your Light Phone 3.
A QR scanner for the Light Phone III, with a companion web page for turning text into a code to scan.
Point it at a code. The result screen shows the decoded text, with OPEN for an address and COPY for anything else. Everything scanned goes into a local history you can clear. There is no account and no cloud, and the history lives in the app’s own preferences.
You can also type or paste an address instead of scanning, which is sometimes the shorter route.
ZXing does the decoding, off the camera’s luminance plane. It is pure Java, so it works on a phone with no Google Play Services. The companion generator at gi-os.github.io/LightQR encodes in the browser and sends nothing anywhere. It exists so a long address can reach the phone without being typed on the phone.
This is a plain sideloaded Android app rather than a Light SDK tool, so it uses CameraX and the standard soft keyboard. It asks for the camera and for network access, and nothing else.
Klondike solitaire for the Light Phone III, with a one-bit deck that carries suit color as shape.
LightOS lists it as Solitaire. Klondike, draw one, unlimited redeals.
The panel is black and white, so shape carries the suit color instead of hue. Spades and clubs are drawn filled, hearts and diamonds as outlines. The alternating-color rule stays readable at a glance and needs no legend.
Tap a card and it goes where it belongs, or drag it yourself. Hint ranks the available moves and shows you one. Two different messages can appear when a game stalls, and the difference is deliberate: No moves left is exact, and This deal can’t be won is a proof, shown only when the proof is cheap enough for a phone to finish. The app never claims a deal is lost when it is not.
The game saves after every move, so leaving and coming back drops you on the same board. Win, and the cards waterfall off the foundations.
Built with the Light SDK, in the tool module the SDK reserves for it. It asks for no
permissions at all.

An AeroPress recipe guide for the Light Phone III.
A camera and gallery for the Light Phone III, with filters, a contact-sheet roll, and QR scanning.
Roll replaces the stock Camera and the stock Album. It is a rewrite, not a fork. You can set it as the default camera, so the hardware camera button opens it.
The roll sits above the viewfinder. Pull down and your photos come into view, newest first against the top-right corner. Older ones run up and to the left, the way a contact sheet reads. Flick up from anywhere and you are back at the shutter. That is the whole navigation model.
What it does:
- Filters, with an optional date back stamped in the corner
- Film-roll mode: a fixed frame count you shoot through before you can look
- PRO, video, selfie and QR modes
- Face detection, run on the hardware
- The wheel works as a lens ring for zoom and exposure
The panel is grey in normal use. Roll lifts the grey while you look through the viewfinder, which is why these shots are in colour.
Light did not make this app. It installs as a plain APK and needs no root. Uninstall it and the stock camera is as it was.
Departure times for any public transport stop in Norway, read straight from Entur's national feeds with no API key.
LightOS menu lists it as Sanntid, the Norwegian word on the departure boards (“live departure time”). It opens on the stop you used last. Star the stops you use and they sit at the top of the chooser.
It reads Entur’s national APIs directly, so it covers every stop in Norway rather than one city: bus, tram, metro, train, coach and ferry, with realtime delays as well as a symbol for disruptions. No key to get, and no server of mine in the path.
Norwegian by default, English in settings; stop names come from Entur and stay Norwegian either way. “Nær meg” (near me) sorts nearby stops by distance, and needs a one-off adb grant, since LightOS does not hand tools location yet.

Scores, schedules and standings for 14 leagues, in one column, with no account and no API key.
Follow a club or a whole league. You get one column of scores, newest at the top, and a notification when a game you follow starts or ends.
Fourteen leagues: MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, WNBA, NWSL, PWHL, WPBL, Formula 1, and the four levels of minor league baseball.
The data comes from public JSON endpoints that need no key, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to paste in. Tap a game for the box score, the venue and the TV listing. A second tab has standings for the majors.
LightOS has no Play Services, so this is a plain sideloaded APK. Every push to the repo publishes a signed release, which Obtainium can track.

A calm, local-first to-do list for the Light Phone III — no cloud, no account, zero permissions.
A calm, local-first task list built with the Light SDK. Add tasks, file them into categories, check them off, and optionally set a due date and time. The whole list lives in one small JSON file on the device — no account, no network, no sync. Unlike cloud-backed task apps, everything stays on the phone.
Features
- Views: All, Inbox, Planned, and Completed, plus your own categories — the selected view’s name sits in the top bar.
- Planned: due tasks grouped under Overdue, Due Today, and Upcoming, with a one-tap Due Today filter.
- Due dates with an optional time, picked from a minimal month-grid calendar.
- Categories: file tasks away, rename or delete them from the categories panel (deleting a category moves its open tasks to the Inbox).
- Calm interactions: one tap checks a task off; details are read-only; the interface is pure monochrome Light design.
- Zero permissions: Tasks holds no permissions and never touches the network.
Tasks is a minimal native Todoist client for the Light Phone III.
Tasks is a minimal native Todoist client for the Light Phone III. It is written in Kotlin and Compose and uses the Light SDK’s native screen, navigation, theme, text-input, and action-bar components.
Features
- Today, Inbox, All Tasks, and project views
- Overdue grouping and bulk rescheduling to today
- Add, complete, reopen, and reschedule actions
- Recursive Todoist-backed subtasks with completed-state display and reopening
- Completed-today history with checked, struck-through task rows
- Swipe calendar and recurring due-date options
- Pull-to-refresh and last-successful-sync status
- Room-backed offline viewing
- Personal API token encrypted with an Android Keystore AES-GCM key
The token is kept separate from the task database. Disconnecting clears both the encrypted token record and cached account data. Offline mutations and OAuth are intentionally outside version 0.1.0.
Connect Todoist
Create or copy a personal API token from your Todoist account’s Integrations settings, then paste it into the connection screen on first launch. Never place a real token in source files, Gradle configuration, test fixtures, or Git history.
Todoist API
This version uses the official Todoist API v1 at
https://api.todoist.com/api/v1. It sends the personal API token only as a
Bearer authorization header and redacts tokens and authorization headers from
errors.
Acknowledgements

native Kotlin native-rewrite branch. Todoist remains the source of truth for
tasks and projects.

The Tip tab works offline. Punch the bill into the keypad, pick a preset or type your own percentage, and read the tip and the total.
The Split tab is for a table. Photograph the receipt, and the items come back as a list you assign to people by tapping. Tax and tip are shared out in proportion, and each person gets their own total.
Every amount is held in cents, never as a decimal, and tax and tip are apportioned by largest remainder. Per-person totals add back up to the bill exactly. I checked that against 20,000 random bills.
Splitting needs an Anthropic API key, which you scan in from a QR on a page that runs entirely in your browser. The key never leaves the phone after that. Tipping needs no key and no network.
