Joseph Purcell Is All Ours
More Joseph. More romance. More reasons to fall in love. ❤️🔥 Get ready to fall even harder.
You heard it here first: short drama’s leading man Joseph Purcell has partnered exclusively with CandyJar. The actor, known for popular series such as His Nerd and Private Lessons (and who’s also Miley Cyrus’s stepbrother!), promises fans nine new shows per year, and the first one has just arrived.
Quick take: Haunted is a romantic thriller in which Purcell plays Cade, a guarded outcast whose father is a serial killer. Teaming up with the new girl in his class, who is able to talk to ghosts, Cade tries to find out who’s behind the dead bodies appearing at school. “I loved playing Cade. He’s misunderstood and dark, but all for good reason. Playing a complex character, especially in short form, is a privilege,” Purcell told the App Store Editors.
Don’t miss: Keep an eye out for a special opportunity arriving mid-November. Write a romance for Purcell to star in and publish it on indie book-writing app Inkitt. Purcell himself will choose his favourite story, which will be produced for CandyJar – and the winner will get to visit the set in LA to watch it all happen.
We spoke to Joseph Purcell about his work and his platform of choice.
When you’re not acting in short dramas, do you have a favourite time to watch them?
There’s such an opportunity to make better use of our phones now. I’d love to connect to a story that I care about instead of doomscrolling anytime.
What made you choose to partner exclusively with CandyJar?
As an actor, getting to work with a creative team full of talent and ambition, while making something that connects to an audience in a deep way, is a special thing.
CandyJar has created a platform with artistic direction as a foundation and treated me like a creative partner from the beginning. The opportunity to help shape what’s next was a no-brainer, a really incredible opportunity.
How is acting different for short-form and long-form?
I think prep time is the key difference for me. Learning how to break a character down to their essentials quickly, and building off those. You can’t be too precious about it. At the end of the day, it’s still the same thing, just less time to discover, but also less time to overthink yourself into problems.
